Actually we had a very quiet 4th of July. We are friendless at the moment, with literally all of our friends out of town for various reasons (not just to avoid us! I think). We ummed and arrhhd over what to do. Dene was keen to head into the city for the huge Texas Freedom festival. Personally the crowds and heat didn't appeal. We decided to head out to Katy and watch the fireworks display. So the kids had an afternoon rest so they could stay up late, as it is summer and gets dark quite late at night, around 9pm.
We headed out with the plan to have a walk around the shops (air con), have something to eat and walk back out to the car park to watch the show. Bom, bom, the only day of the year I think the shops shut early...... So we headed over to trusty Wal-Mart. Always open, in this case 24 hours/day..... Stocked up on some nibbles and set about to find a car park to watch the fireworks. By the time we came out of Wal-Mart the carpark was getting full of people setting up for the show. There were cars, kids, camping chairs and music to boot. Reminding me a little of a country football game with everyone sitting in the back of the utes etc. Some locals suggested we stay where we were as the view was good and the traffic not so bad from this point to get out at the end of it all. So we stayed! We opened the back of the car, ate some food and just hung out in the car park like everyone else.
Just before the show we decided (ok Dene decided) he would let the kids to look out of the sun roof to watch. Nait however was a little short for this, quite funny his little head poking out from the roof. So Dene got up with them and let them sit on the roof rack to watch. Being the daughter of a Panel Beater it is like the 11th commandment, thou shall not EVER sit on roof or bonnet of the car. It is the easiest place to dent a car. (See Dad I did listen)
The kids really enjoyed it and Sharni didn't stop talking about it. So it was all worth it!

Ha...I like the 11th commandment...you rebel min. Don't you just look like the biggest bogans hanging out in the back of the car at Wal-mart...Looks like you are having fun though.

Too funny about sitting on top of the car....did they dent it? Looks like fun hanging out in the back of the ute - man, those memories will stay with the kids forever.
